Course Details — 2 Days Theory, 3 Days Practical

Our roller training is a TETA-accredited programme delivered over five consecutive days. The first two days are classroom-based, covering safety legislation, compaction theory, machine systems, and operational knowledge. Days three through five move to the training yard for full hands-on operation of actual road rollers and compactors under certified instructor supervision — no simulators, ever.

Classes run Monday to Friday, 07:30–16:30. Theory sessions accommodate up to 12 students. Practical sessions operate on a strict 4:1 student-to-instructor ratio, maximising your time in the cab on real machines.

Types of Rollers Covered in Training

🛞

Smooth Drum Roller

Static and vibratory single/tandem drum — most common in road paving and base compaction

⚙️

Padfoot / Sheepsfoot

Used for cohesive soil compaction in earthworks, embankments, and sub-base preparation

🚗

Pneumatic Tyre Roller

Rubber-wheeled compactor for sealing asphalt surfaces and granular material compaction

Why Train as a Roller Operator?

Every road, parking lot, airstrip, and building foundation in South Africa requires compaction — making qualified roller operators indispensable across construction, civil engineering, and road-building sectors. Certified operators enjoy consistent demand, solid salaries, and clear advancement paths.

💰

Strong Earning Potential

Entry-level roller operators earn R12,000–R18,000 per month. Experienced operators on major road contracts regularly achieve R25,000–R35,000+.

🏗️

Persistent National Demand

South Africa's road maintenance backlogs, housing programmes, and infrastructure spending sustain a consistent shortage of certified roller operators across all nine provinces.

📈

Clear Career Progression

Start on rollers, then cross-train to graders, pavers, or TLBs. Each additional TETA certificate directly increases your market value and opens doors to higher-paying roles.

🌍

Work Across the Continent

TETA-accredited qualifications are recognised across SADC, opening opportunities on road and infrastructure projects throughout Africa.
